A martingale collar is a type of dog collar designed to provide more control over your dog without choking them. It consists of two loops: a larger loop that goes around the dog's neck and a smaller loop (or control loop) that tightens when tension is applied. The control loop prevents the collar from slipping off over the dog's head and also tightens slightly to discourage pulling or escaping. Martingale collars are often used for dogs with narrow heads, like Greyhounds and Whippets, or for training dogs that tend to slip out of traditional collars. They are considered safer than choke collars because they do not tighten indefinitely.
